Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF)

Product Description

Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) is widely used for separating biological solids, fats, oil, and grease from a variety of different waste streams. In the DAF process tank, pressurized water is saturated with dissolved air and injected into the bottom of a flotation chamber. The microscopic air bubbles attach to solids and float them to the surface, forming a sludge blanket. A scraping assembly skims the sludge off the surface of the water and into a sump where the sludge is pumped to holding tank or dewatering equipment. The treated water flows from the DAF vessel to discharge or on to downstream treatment processes.  DAF clarification generates sludge with much greater percent solids than does gravity clarification. In some applications, chemical flocculent and/or coagulant may be required to enhance the DAF’s solid removal efficiency.
